Jeff’s Most Anticipated Films of 2015

This week, See Spot Run is taking a look at our most anticipated films of 2015. Here’s what Senior Editor Jeff Ayala can’t wait to see on the big-screen…..

Kirsten Dunst & Michael Shannon on the set of Midnight Special

Midnight Special

Written and Directed by: Jeff Nichols

Starring: Nichols regular Michael Shannon with Adam Driver, Kirsten Dunst, Joel Edgerton and Sam Shepard.

Jeff Nichols is currently my favorite contemporary director.  After Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter and Mud, every film he releases is a calendar-marking event (at least for me).  Now with, Mighnight Special, Nichols delves into the Sci-Fi genre.  Little is known about this film other than a cryptic logline:

A father and son go on the run after the dad learns his child possesses special powers.

Knight of Cups

Knight of Cups

Written and Directed by: Terrance Malick

Starring: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Brian Dennehy, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto and Wes Bentley.

The new Terrence Malick film, after being in post-production since early 2013, is finally being released this year. The trailer looks absolutely amazing and unlike anything this master auteur has every made before.

Macbeth

Macbeth

Directed by: Justin Kurzel

Written by: Jacob Koskoff, Michael Lesslie and Todd Louiso

Starring: Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard

Okay, so a relatively unknown director taking on Shakespeare usually isn’t a recipe for success.  But, this cat landed freaking Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard as the leads.  Enough said, where’s my damn ticket!?!?!?!?

Trainwreck1

Trainwreck

Written by: Amy Schumer

Directed by: Judd Apatow

Starring: Amy Schumer,  Daniel Radcliff, Brie Larson, Tilda Swinton, Marisa Tomei and Bill Hader

How could this film not be intriguing?  Plot details are being kept very hush, hush; but Amy Schumer writing AND staring in a Judd Apatow film?  Come on!

Ant-Man

Ant-Man

Written by: Adam McKay and Paul Rudd

Directed by: Peyton Reed

Starring: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas

I normally shy away from superhero movies, but freaking Paul Rudd as Ant-Man!?!?!?!  Add in the fact that Rudd wrote the script with comedic genius Adam McKay plus Michael Douglas as the villain.

What a weird mix of humans.

A must see for me!
